Panos Kountouras was born in Thessaloniki in 1976. His interest in arts begins early and he has been painting from his school years for personal contentment.
He studied architecture in Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. The last 12 years lives and works in Athens. His basic occupation is painting and architecture, with his atelier being based in his office d_code ARCHITECTS.
Through his art his trying to express free, liquid forms, still obeying to rules of synthesis, regarding both geometry and color selection.
In this series of works titled ‘TIXIS (meltings)’, ‘a color environment in fluid condition’ is presented.
The paintings are all in big dimensions inviting the viewer inside another world that will embrace him/her. Easy symbolism is avoided, instead abstraction is preferred.
He has his own expressive language and code without being limited to precedent artistic achievements or being categorized to any of the big art movements. He pursues a clearly personal way of expression and he conquers it.
And something more substantial: he has realized that it is not the direction that an artist follows but his ability to make the best of the primitive elements of his media: color, line and space.
Panos Kountouras actually has this ability and without sacrificing completely visual reality he delivers a poetic transformation, a transcription to an artistic ideogram expressing much more than a simple reproduction.
